Petra, owner of Petra Hair Design, began styling hair in 1984, immediately after graduation. She was in the LEAP Program at Lubbock High School which offered Cosmetology in the Junior and Senior year of High School. Petra was involved in the VICA program where she was the President of the Local Chapter and Vice-President of the State.
Petra was mentored by some of the best stylists in the city. David Everett, Landa Gamble-Jones and Carlos Estrada offered lots of advice, guidance and skills in the field.
An opportunity was presented to Petra to be certified, work and educate for Paul Mitchell Systems. She began right away! She would travel to Salons in the state of Texas and educate on product knowledge and many styling techniques as well as doing platform work at shows. She worked closely with Ray Strickland of Amarillo and Kent Skinner of Plano, Texas.
Paul Mitchell offered her education and certification in product knowledge, customer service,
marketing, motivation, inspiration and advanced training in skills by the best in the world! Petra traveled to many parts of the country to learn and train with Robert Cromeans, Stephanie Kocielski, Floyd Kenyatta along with John & Suzanne Chadwick of London, New York, Beverly Hills and Paris.
Petra opened Petra Hair Design on September 19, 1994. She knew one thing… it would be a Paul Mitchell Signature Salon! As it still is today! She has stayed true to the company coming up on 30 years!!!
A member of her Paul Mitchell team suggested that she began offering wigs to her Guests. She trusted the advice of Ray Strickland and began doing as he recommended. Petra loved it from the start! It just added to what she already was doing.
Petra continues to train every year to advance her skills as well as that of her staff. She is so proud of the dedication her staff has to offer and their willingness to learn, teach and help others with all hair needs throughout their life. They love Paul Mitchell, love working with hair replacement and love customer service!
The Salon is in partnership with the “Children with Hair Loss” Foundation. Guests can donate their hair and the children receive customized wig packages to recipients annually at no cost!
Petra Hair Design is a proud member of the American Hair Loss Council.
Another partnership is with the “Inside Out Foundation”. Our Guests donate wigs previously used or new. We collect and deliver them to the foundation to be available to anyone suffering with hair loss and is in need.
The Salon has worked multiple years with the Lubbock Children’s home to style the children’s hair on picture day. A professional photographer, Amanda Wise, provides photos for the children. Many of them do not have professional images of themselves. They feel like a super star!
